wallpaper flowers

I thought it would be fun (and challenging!) to do something different for the other vase that my cousin Widya has.

Seeing the never-ending stacks of wallpaper scraps in my studio (yes, i keep all of them!) i finally got to realize the idea of making flowers from wallpaper. Funny how creativity flows, eh?

I made roses and buttercups based on these tutorials (credits due to them!), but tweaked it a little to make it easier for me.

The only difficulty i had with this project however was the arrangement. Long vases were trickier as the flowers need to balance the solid shape of the vase.

I finally added a hydrangea pomander ball as a topper and some paper leaves on both sides to balance things out. The arrangement now consists of 7 roses, 4 buttercups, 2 leaves and 1 hydrangea ball *phew*.

I hope bet she likes it.

... just kidding!

hydrangea

Discovered this row of fresh-flowers-sellers at Kemang accidentally yesterday, i almost jumped out of my seat and shout in excitement at hubby's ear to pull over. Too bad i didn't get any pictures because it was raining, but will surely come back to get me some Forget-Me-Nots next time.

Back home, i put the hydrangeas in a thick glass vase with some sugar in the water (I read somewhere that helps fresh flowers stay longer). On display were two flower-theme cut-outs from Frankie magazine.

Wouldn't it be great to have new fresh flowers every week at home? Happy Monday everyone!

couch makeover

I've had samples of upholstery and curtains fabrics piling up on my room for months and it only struck me recently that i could use them to give a much-needed makeover to my couch!

Finally i gave my couch that flea-market chic touch i always adore...

Using four different fabrics for each stool allowing me to get a different look every time i turn them around. I'm quite pleased with the way they look.

tutorial: bunting magnet

This is a short tutorial on how to make an easy-peasy bunting magnet. It's a great way to make use of your too-pretty-to-throw-away paper or fabric scrap.

1. Gather your supplies of:
  • paper scraps
  • magnet sheet (can be bought at stationery shops)
  • image of what you want to make (i use triangle to make a bunting)
  • pencil
  • double-sided tape
  • cutter knife
  • steel ruler

2. Draw the shape of the triangle onto the right side of your paper. You can cut them one by one now, or later when they are stick to the magnet.

3. Stick the double-sided tape onto the magnet, peel it off and arrange the paper to be put on them. Make sure you do it carefully edges to edges.

4. Cut each of the triangle with a cutter (and a ruler) or a scissor, together with the magnet.

5. Arrange them on your fridge or anywhere to make it look festive. Ta-da!

Some things to remember:
  • straight lines cut best when cutting magnet. So geometric shapes work best in this case, or if you want other shapes, choose ones that only have curves on the angle.  Example:  i tried cutting a puzzle shape, and the result was not very neat.

  • If you wanna do bigger shapes (say a balloon speech?), laminate the paper first
before sticking it to the magnet. That way you can write and erase on it by using the dry-erase marker! Oh, the possibilities...

rainbow bouquet

My infatuation for anything multicolored has resulted in a rainbow bouquet.

I made this bouquet for my cousin, Widya, who had been an owner of two empty vases for too long.

The width of the peonies makes a perfect fit for short but stubby vases, and i added some artificial  leaves with berries to fill in the empty space between the flowers.

What's so good about this rainbow bouquet is the different looks you get every time you turn the vase around. I find myself staring at it several times a day and never get bored.

Oh, the possibilities of having rainbow bouquets of roses and every other flower now fills my mind. I'm gonna show you what i'm gonna do with another vase of her soon!
