tobucil's crafty days #6

Hard to believe it's been almost a year since my first craft fair at tobucil.

If last year, it was all about me, me & me (you know how nervous being a first-timer is right?), this time i decided to come with a different mindset. More than anything else, I want to fully experience the love of creativity of the handmade community. 

The chance to see what other creative brains come up with always baffle me, not to mention i don't meet most of the crafters here at other craft fairs in Jakarta.

Tobucil's Crafty Days is a different kind of craft fair because it strictly selects and curates its tenants every year. There's that sense of "freshness-guaranteed" albeit its small-size and traditional feel. 

It also felt nostalgic.

It reminds me of how much experience i have gained over the past 12 months and that i wanted to remain "thirsty" for more. I feel comfortable being in this circle of people and it influences the way I socialize with the other crafters too. No more awkwardness and self-conscious instead I was relaxed, honest and sincere. That was important for me. 

Now, the best part about it... the affordable handmade products!

I only managed to get my hands on these ones because they're truly one-of-a-kind and that i slept thinking about them after the first day. (Oh, well...).

For the rest, i'm planning to keep them under my radar and hopefully see them again next year. Till then, i'm gonna be parading these babies at home and everywhere...

I found a book of vintage kid's wallpapers among my collection and i think their looks goes very well with the Hellofest event that i'm participating this Saturday. 

Featuring old-school illustrations and patterns on the borders which i top-stitched onto the covers of some of the wallets. Just so charming!

one sunday flea market & PPKI 2011

I've been having some very productive weekends here.

Two weeks ago, i participated in One Sunday Flea Market at Kemang, South Jakarta, along with ika and mei suling. Even though the market was not as crowded as i had anticipated, i was quite happy to meet many interesting people and buying myself some clothes and shoes. 

The event had a good vibe (despite the limited parking space) and it was quite successful for a first-timer. I was told, they were planning to held it monthly, so do check out their next event.

The following weekend, i was invited by Fashionese Daily to attend "Business Connect" of Pekan Produk Kreatif Indonesia (PPKI) 2011 at JCC. 

The purpose of the event is "business matchmaking" between the new business owners and potential investors. Each participant also got to present their business background & plan in front of a team of panelists, who then would ask questions and give their business insights about it.

Now, i didn't take any pictures (can u believe it?) but i did get some very positive response from the people i met there about Paperpleased. It totally made my day :)

my first craft fair

Ever since i was informed as one of the participants at Tobucil's Crafty Days in Bandung, i couldn't be more excited.

So many thoughts went into my head as to what the event could possibly be like. I love visiting craft fairs, but to be there and selling my work is obviously a different take on the whole thing.

In the preparation, designing the booth was the most exciting yet thoughts-consuming stage for me. I love decorating and i probably took it a bit way too seriously as i made frequent shopping trips to find the right props. Reading those pretty decor blogs are partly to blame too...

I chose to keep the props' colors minimal while choosing only light-weight materials and non-breakable items (very important!). Wooden plate trays, white wire baskets, an easily-assembled wooden container, and a red-checkered vinyl table cloth were picked as they fulfill all the criteria.

I printed pictures of every product in 4R size and put them up with those price-display clips to best show their use. This helped me a lot in explaining what the crowds can do with my stuff.

Now, what's a craft show without a bunting??

However, to make mine different from the usual triangle-shaped bunting, i came up with this idea of using laminated paper doilies.

I was so pleased with the result! Although its kinda embarrassing to admit how much time i had spent adjusting them in the correct position using the wooden clothes pins ;p

During the fair, I finally got to meet some of the friendly faces i've been following, such as mei, ika, ojan & putri, and of course tarlen herself, while also made new friends with audelia agustine (who asked me to craft-swap with her. Brilliant idea!), asri, agung & putri (love their work!), grace and sheila d.

Joining Tobucil's crafty days was definitely a good hands-on learning experience, especially for a newbie like me. I look forward to participate in more of them! :)

inacraft 2011

With Inacraft 2011 (the biggest Indonesian handycraft fair) being held last week,  i kept making excuses from crafting and blogging *cough*, in order to hit the town and... SHOP!

Yes, the 5-day-event is probably the only craft fair worth-traveling all the way to Jakarta for, if you live in other cities or countries. It is the most-anticipated international-scale craft fair with almost 2000 participants from all areas of art & crafts. We're talking bout some serious variety and workmanship here.

I love shopping for homewares, more than anything, there. 

So here's what i got from this year's Inacraft:

Table lamp (the stand was made of Hankook ceramics), skull-shaped sandalwood-scented candle (my fave buy!), embroidered coaster&cover set (so dainty!) and voodoo dolls from (who-else-but) idekuhandmade :)

i can't get enough of woven baskets/ boxes/ plates/... anything really

Once they're put to use in my house:
