Goodbye 2011

What an incredible journey this year had been.
Paperpleased turned 1 this December (20th to be exact), and i still remember the very first time i blogged about it like it was yesterday. I certainly didn't see things would go this far. What started from curiosity had led me exploring this wonderful world i had never known to love.

More than anything, i would like to remember 2011 as the year i started believing in doing things that are close to my heart. Believing in a sense that you love it enough to overcome any struggle that comes within its every aspect.

The constant tossing and turning of ideas, stretching the possibilities of taking things further, and the vision that i have in what i do fuels me to strive for more. Paperpleased had occupied my mind throughout the year and it doesn't look like it'll stop for the coming year.

Thank you readers and friends for constantly supporting me.

some new stuff

In conjunction with the FimelaFest which was held last weekend, i added some new stuff in hope for more variety of things in my booth.

These include: paper-punched blank cards (in ombre theme!), document-holder (in A4 and Folio size), red wallpaper ang paos, and some old-but-beloved stock of wall(paper)ets. To my pleasant surprise, they were all sold out pretty quickly :)

Joining this event has truly been one of my craft-fair highlights. Sales was great, the venue was decorated really nicely (thanks OneSunDay team!), no humid weather (it was indoor) and i got to meet so many new customers and friends! Thank you all of you!

New: Wall(paper)et 2.0

There comes a time when you look back at the things you've made and say to yourself "i could do better than this".

It might be the result of making a certain thing over and over again, or it might just be you longing for something new.

Whatever it is, it propelled me to come up with a better and simpler design of wallpaper wallets this time (hence the name).

I love the simplicity of this wallet. The long pocket, the hidden compartments, and the card slots. It is thin and able to carry all your necessities like a wallet should.

Size: 21cm x 11.5cm

creative rut

You know that feeling where you just feel numb creatively?

Well, these last few weeks, i'd been stuck in one.
This is the first time it lasted more than three days, and believe me i did not enjoy it one single bit.

During such time i thought it would be a good time to try my hands on other projects. So i experimented making paper flowers out of recycled paper...

The tutorials are found here, here and here.

...and some other more from fabric.
I ended up making 200pcs of fabric flower corsages (with covered buttons) for my auntie who ordered them for her shoes. She runs a wholesale shoe shop here in Jakarta and regularly works with local craftsmen who make them for her.

Now, i was definitely happy with the opportunity to take my mind off of Paperpleased for a while. But with the absence of my second assistant, it took me & my first assistant the whole week to make the 200pcs (!). By the third day, i was already sewing and reading at the same time, listening to TED.com while gluing the flowers, etc, simply because i couldn't stand having a mind-numbing activity.

Before we (almost) finished it, i had missed the joy of working with paper in my hands so much that i tried out a new design in the middle of the night.

In the end, i guess we can only be reminded that being creative is a process. It takes time but it definitely can be learned by everyone (certainly so in my case). You might just surprise yourself along the way, and the result is always worth it. My sister uses the term "breaking the glass" and i couldn't agree more :)

How about you? Do you have any tips on breaking (invisible) glasses around you?

on genie

On another note, i received the latest copy of tabloid "Genie" which features Paperpleased on their article today.

I'm very happy with all the media attention on Paperpleased, but I just have to point out that there's a few errors in the article.

One that's probably need to be clarified is its saying of me buying wallpaper from US.
That is just not true.

The only thing i ever brought overseas so far were just the Martha Stewart Paper Punches and the Croc-a-Dile II. How do you carry the heavy sample books of wallpapers all the way from the US anyway? Please share with me if you do know the most-economical way to do so! :)

However, i'm still very very happy to be featured in genie. So, thank you mba Rahmi and mas Rahmat!

"karena aku wanita" (b channel)

The clumsy girl that i am... i totally forgot i was on tv this morning.

Yup, B Channel's "Karena Aku Wanita" ("Because I'm a Woman") program airs every Saturday at 10.30am and features interesting local female entrepreneurs doing their thing.

We shoot the episode over a week ago, when Mas Bratma found and contacted me via twitter (that sounds cool, doesn't it?). Shooting was a breeze this time with only him and the cameraman (i forgot his name!) and there was no moving things around. I had, however, managed to hide the mess the night before and arranged an emergency display on my console table.

Big thanks to Siska, who took a pic of me on tv and letting me know about the show airing (doh!) and now i remember i have some pics to share during the shooting.

Plain Tote Bag

Here's my take on the "plain" tote bags, for some of you who may not fancy the applique detail so much. They're available in beige, pink and black, with paper-punched trimmings on both sides of each bag.

Have a good weekend!

on sekar & kartika

So glad to be featured in not one, but two local magazines this week!

The first is Kartika (October 2011).
The whole interview was done through emails  (with photos from facebook!) with Mas Ade. Talk bout convenience huh? :D

The second one is Sekar (21/09/11-05/10/11).
This was a "real" interview where Mba Ira and Mas Sandy came to my place. Thank you both!
